RUSTOM

Akshay played the titular role of a decorated naval officer facing murder allegations of his wife's lover in the 2016 blockbuster, which was supposedly inspired on the now-famous K.M Nanavati vs State of Maharashtra case. The film depicted the narrative of a defence personnel divided between his personal and professional lives, and Kumar did an outstanding job portraying the typical patriotic officer who puts his country above everything else. As a result of his outstanding performance in the film, Akshay was nominated for a National Award.

HOLIDAY-A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY

Akshay played Capt. Virat Bakshi in the top-secret intelligence wing of the Indian Army, who uncovers the conspiracy to bomb Mumbai by sleeper cell terrorists, in the official remake of AR Murugadoss' 2012 Tamil blockbuster Thuppaki. Akki was excellent in the role once again. Critics loved his performance, and the film went on to become one of the highest grossing films of its year. For the same, Akshay received a nomination for Filmfare's best actor award.

AIRLIFT

Based on the true story of Malayali businessman Mathunny Mathew's efforts to evacuate Indians from Kuwait after Iraq's invasion. The film struck a chord with new-age audiences who identify as non-Indians while living overseas. Akshay played an NRI businessman stuck in an occupied country seeking to preserve his family and comrades while confronting his own ideological inconsistencies in the film, which also starred Nimrat Kaur.

NAAM SHABANA

Despite being a spin-off from the 2015 spy thriller 'Baby,' the film followed Shabana Khan's journey from a girl next door to an undercover spy. Akki, who was played by Tapsee Pannu, had a modest but pivotal role in the film as a mentor who changed a girl's life.

MISSION MANGAL

The film depicted the Indian Space Research Organization's (ISRO) first space mission to Mars. The film included a cast of some of today's most outstanding performers, including Sharman Joshi, Vidya Balan, Kriti Kulhari, and Akshay Kumar, who played a scientist at India's leading space agency. The film was a financial success, proving that patriotism does not always have to be uniformly bound.
